Hartmann Neuron - Sold

I am selling my Hartmann Neuron synthesizer - mint condition - for € 3.000.-. If you are interested send me an e-mail to pmm(at)petermmahr.com.

For your convenience I copied below an older blog entry from October 2007 (is that really that long ago?).

The Hartmann Neuron was and in a way still is a polarising instrument. For those who like to generate unique soundscapes it is a very interesting tool. Several people claim it only can sound harsh, cold and digital and you can get the same sounds with software synthesizers. Let’s hear if that is true and decide for yourself.

Do not expect the sound of a real Orchestra when listening to the first example.

Orchestral Pad

To me this sound includes in a way horns, strings and a bit the decay of a harpsichord at the end. All thrown together, shredded and put together again. Do you think this to be a harsh, cold and digital sound?

Next sound is one of my favourites and named “bebe Tara”. Originally planed to be used in a short diving movie, but the movie never made it.

By using the sticks (= “chanterelles”) you can influence some of the characteristics of the sound, depending on the model used. The reverb you hear is the internal one and to be honest, quite important for most of the sounds…

bebe Tara

Neuron-#3

In the last audio demo you can listen to several sounds I played in a row. Yes, some of them are scratchy, to me this is part of the “charme” of Neuron. Switching between sounds sometimes can take a while as Neuron always has to load the model.

several neuron sounds

Mass & Time
sounds like a motor saw recorded thru a phaser

Der Erzaehler
reminiscence to a project in the 90ies, has some Peter Gabriel “genes” in it

VP-1 Bellpad
very scratchy, but I love it

Didgeridoo
a factory sound, played a little bit with the chanterelles.. surprisingly does sound better then during playing

Wave Tubell Pad
used a Wave sample and “ReModellized” it, does not need further explanation, does it? Maybe your monitor boxes cannot reproduce the low end at the beginning.

Unisonal
to avoid any depressed listeners I am ending with a “happy sound” … mh… maybe not to happy for others, but at least happy for me. Chanterelles were used once more.

Last but not least - in case you ever have the chance to switch on a Neuron one… no, two recommendations. First put on your sun glasses before you switch on… but before that check the fuses .

If you want to know more about this machine, then visit hartmann-music’s website. There are more Hartmann Neuron related websites online with lots of informations, like the one from Sylvain Kepler or the dedicated Neuron Forum. And if you want to know more about Neuron Forum user “neuronaut” - he is what I call the brain, maybe DSP brain describes it more precisely, behind the Neuron - then it is a must to click here.

blogASYS content

In the last days I was asked what the content of this blog will be. I will try to give some answers.

As I love the OASYS - which by the way was not always the case - everything on this weblog will be related to this production machine. The M3 is not the focus. First I do not have access to M3 data nor to the machine itself, second I do not have the time to deal with it too. Sorry.

Of course you will find here news related directly or indirectly to KORGs OASYS. I guess we all hope that this category gets filled quite often. :-)

Beside the news, tests and workshops will be published. They will mostly depend on the interest and feedback, which means it depends on you. At the moment the AL-1 is on schedule. Others will follow!

Of course there are the interviews. This category will for sure be continued. Some more are finished already and others are in the pipeline… as people like to say these days.

Why interviews? I am tired of reading interviews from “stars” getting interchangable “answers”. Not that this is their fault! Visiting several fora (forums?) I met a lot of people about whom I would like to know more about. And it seems that I am not the only one who is interested in the way, they compose, arrange or record. Interestingly… most of them are using or would like to use an OASYS. And even more interesting to me, most of them are willing to give an interview. So OASYS is the common denominator or link between them.

If you expect interviews only dealing about OASYS, then you will most likely be disappointed. It is all about the guest. The guests music, his or her projects, background, musical interest, opinions, etc… Getting sometimes an insight in the way someone is working, is at least for me, of high interest too.

This blog will be succesful if you get the feeling to receive informations, be it about the person, or for example how to solve a similar problem in your studio or about OASYS.

Please feel free to mail me any comment, be it that my english needs a lot of improvement :-), or if you have any other critics or suggestions…. positive feedback is of course welcome, too.

Thank you for your interest and thank you to Daz aka Darren Richards for beingt my first guest without knowing what will happen here!

Next Interview will go online Sunday 28th at 4.00 pm (central european time)

___________________________________________________________________
