Korg OASYS User minnkorg was so kind to provide a MIDI file in Supertramp style. Several Wurlitzer sounds were recorded as they are using on board effects. There are HD-1, MOD-7 and KARO sounds for the OASYS versus Roland factory and SRX expansion sounds. Feel free to post any comments.

OASYS together with MOTU’s dp5.1, PSP’s Vintage Warmer and some UAD Plug Ins
There were always instruments that impressed me. Yamaha’s VL-series is one example, Korg’s Wavedrum another one. The latter I could not afford and unfortunately disappeared to fast from the market without finding a new home in my studio. Now it is no longer available… so in case you know someone who is willing to sell his Wavedrum.. please let me know.
Korg’s Wavedrum had unique sounds of which you can hear some on Eric Persing’s sound collections. The Wavedrum’s pad was of course half of the secret and I am afraid there is no real way to compensate that within OASYS. But the number of different controllers like the VJS together with velocity and aftertouch could make a different approach feasible. Anyway this is not the place for it and there is most likely much more necessary…
Together with Ebse I recorded the following track which consists of Korg sounds only. Not very surprising the drumloop is a Wavedrum sound and even less surprising everything else comes from Korg’s OASYS.
Here you find the link to Daz’ free OASYS Randomizer.
It is a small …. unspectacular tool which most likely is underestimated by some OASYANs. Which is fine for those who just are using the HD-1 sounds like Piano, String, Brass, of course the GM bank and the factory sounds of the Virtual Analogs.
But in case you want to use AL-1, MS-20 and Polysix and do not have the time to read the manuals in detail but still want some more sounds…. hm, then there is no way around this tool. Together with RC’s & KARO’s new Analog Collection I highly recommend to install the Randomizer. And the nice thing about it is… you only have to press one button to open the door to some more sounds.
Here is one example consisting of just two sounds:
iRandom mix1
Sorry about the bad timing but I did not use a click, just recorded the “bass” and then added the “iRandom Giant Rotary” pad.
The pad sound is a randomized version of the great factory sound “Giant Rotary”. It is one of these sounds where a lot of controllers have an impact on the sound. This was not change in the randomized version. I called the factory sound up and pressed the button once! Yes, once. The new version is now a little bit “dirtier” and morphing from a flanging pad into a digital kind of noise when the Vector Joystick gets used. Again, probably not everyone’s taste, but defenitely mine and a must have, saved to several media.
The other sound, kind of Bass, is a modified version of one of my Polysix Sounds. The other meanwhile ten sounds are stored and two lead sounds let me seriously think of selling the Moog Voyager! Someone once posted - I guess it was Stephen Kay - that there is no real need to keep those instruments anymore… I was sceptical… I was.
usage of randomizer (aka iRandom) @ one’s own risk
Added the following two files to audio demos category
tricky drums
Although I did not really dig into the depths of KARMA (big mistake, I know!), in this audio file two GEs were “used”. One for the drums (one of the many great factory sounds) and another one for the STR-1 guitar. You can hear once more the Synth Sax Solo and of course a HD-1 pad sound.
dark aquarell
No multitracking - OASYS’ pads were used for the bass padsound which is a modified sound from KAROs Philharmonic Strings. Switch, joystick and sustain pedal were used for the solo sound, which is a modified factory sound.
As of today, February 10th, 2007 audio demo category starts.
First example is based on a HD-1 synth-pad supported by a STR-1 bass - for those who do not know I am a Peter Gabriel and Tony Levin fan
Next demo file is for sure not everyones taste, but the discussion about AL-1’s capability to reproduce typical 80ies synthesizer sounds was the motivation to give that one a try:
This one is very 80ies like - Fretless Bass and kind of FM/DX E-Piano, a 1oo% HD-1 Combination.
Last but not least a version of a sound that in my opinion is one of the best ever programmed pads and used in one of the best songs ever composed. Originally programmed on a Prophet V this sound consits of an AL-1 and HD-1 pad.
